Pinewood Derby Race

Matthew competed in his second Pinewood Derby race Friday night. The building of his car started back in December when he was given his rectangle wood block. Matthew drew a couple of different designs on paper for what he might want his car to look like. He finalized his idea in January and handed the blue prints over to Ryan. Ryan got out the scroll saw and began engineering Matthew's car. This year I think Ryan was determined to give Matthew a faster car to race. A car in which he might actually win a trophy. The boys spent hours in the garage sanding, painting and working on the wheels.

The BIG race day finally arrived. We all went to cheer #88 on. My children stayed glued in their chairs watching all of the different cars race.

Matthew was in his glory racing his #88 car. He came in fourth or fifth place which is a lot better than last year. Ryan has one more year to perfect his pinewood derby car building skills for Matthew. Matthew is holding out hope that his dad will be able to pull through for him next year. He really wants to get one of the trophies. (I am sure by Thomas we will have a won a few trophies. I believe we are in the pinewood derby race for the next 7 years or so.)

Matthew's favorite part is to race his car on the track after the big race.

We have our derby on Sat. Have we started our cars? Nope. Not a highlight for us the parents. Wish the kids could all build their own. :-)
