Demolition Derby

(Pictures taken with camcorder. I forgot the Camera batteries needed to be charged. Not the greatest quality.)

Monday night I took the boys to the Loudoun County Fair to watch a Demolition Derby. We had a blast watching the cars get demolished. As soon as it started, Joshua snuggled right into my side. We were on the front row. As you can see from the top picture, there is a fence and then a concrete barrier ring that surrounds the derby. Four cars go at it at a time. They have two rounds and the top two cars from each round move onto the finally derby. This year they added an extra round of mini vans. It was a riot watching all these cars. It is amazing to me the age of the drivers. Some look like they are in their fifties. This year there were no major car fires. Two cars during two different rounds got pushed up onto the top of the concrete barriers. It was funny to watch the drivers, who were trying so hard to rock their vehicles off of the barriers. I am surprised of the adrenaline rush you get watching cars going full speed backwards and crashing into other vehicles. Your kind of on edge somewhat, making sure no tires or bumpers go flying in your direction. Not to mention car fires starting at any point. You see tons of sparks under the cars and you wonder if the officials can see them.
We had a great evening watching the derby. We finished the night off with some cotton candy.
